Jonesboro, AR 09-26-10
Three weeks ago I went to Jonesboro, AR and got to sing for 5 different crowds in 2 days! Saturday night I was invited to sing at a benefit concert for the local women’s crisis center. Sunday morning, the First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro let me lead all 3 of their services. Then later on that evening, I did a concert for the First Baptist Church right across the street. The most amazing part of the whole weekend is that 13 people in the various crowds that weekend decided to become child sponsors through Mission of Mercy!! Thanks to all of you who stepped up and reached out to the poor and helpless children of the world. I was definitely met with great hospitality everywhere I went while I was in Jonesboro, so needless to say I will try and get back there very soon.
Starkville, MS 10-03-10
A couple months ago I got an email from a youth pastor at FUMC Starkville who had gotten my name from another youth pastor at a different church – which in turn led to a gig playing a Friday night 5th quarter and a Sunday morning show as well. Isn’t word of mouth advertising a wonderful thing? This was also the first time I had been to Starkville. I have to tell you that living in Oxford, you hear a lot of horrible things about that, “other place,” as the locals call it. Well, as an outsider with no loyalties, I can tell you that it’s all false. Starkville’s a great place (as for their football team, however I cannot say). Anyways, I did not visit to talk about sports. I came to play my guitar, so everything was kosher. They had a great turnout Friday night with about 300 youth, and then Sunday morning they had a packed house as well, so it was again a successful trip!
Saint Simons Island, GA and Dublin, GA 10-10-10
Two years or so ago when I first started traveling outside of my hometown to play shows, I remember getting an email from a church that was 10 hours away from my home and asking me if I would come and do a concert for them. It was my first gig away from home! For that reason, FBC in Waycross, GA holds a special place in my heart. I got the chance to hang out with them again (the 3rd time in 2 ½ years) last weekend. They were having a youth retreat on the East Coast in Saint Simons Island and asked me to lead the worship. (It’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it;) The coolest part about going is that they have a high ropes course. I am the biggest fan of doing extreme things like that as long as you can promise me I won’t die. That’s exactly what a high ropes course is! The retreat lasted until Sunday morning and then that night I drove 2 hours north to yet another uncharted town for me: Dublin, GA. Very cool town, very cool church at First Baptist. So I gave them a very cool 45 minute performance and that is where my fun in South GA came to an end.
These last few weeks were a blur of awesomeness, and I just want to thank everyone for all of their prayers and support along the way. Continue to pray that God will provide me with a steady amount of shows during the last few months of 2010. It’s been a great and exciting year so far thanks to all of you!
